Alan Tomlins, MD and co-founder of Small Batch Coffee Roasters, will be taking part in lunch!’s ‘Food-to-go multiples of the future’ panel on Friday 22 September.  He’ll be appearing alongside Edward Parkes, co-founder of The Gentlemen Baristas, and Frank Boltman, director of Trade, discussing how independent operators can grow their brands.

How has the food to go sector changed in the last 10 years?

Unbelievably compared to where it was.  The quality and range available now, in just about any town, is fantastic and from a specialty coffee shop point of view our industry didn’t really exist 10 years ago!

What do you see as trends for the future of food-to-go?

In coffee we are seeing rapid advancement in automation of equipment whilst maintaining quality, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see this develop in the food-to-go sector. I’m not sure if this is good or bad, but it is happening.

Where do you see your company in 5 years’ time?

Still roasting and serving great coffees everyday but to more people in new places.

What’s your biggest seller at the moment?

Flat White. Always has been, always will be.

Describe the lunch! trade show in 3 words?

Current, evolving, and essential.

How important does lunch! continue to be to your business?

It’s the perfect place to meet potential wholesale customers and stay up on trends and developments for our retail business.

See Alan at lunch! 2017: 3.45pm in Keynote Theatre 2 on Friday 22 September.
